And I chatted to him

Paul White: Before The Purple Brain

It’s always encouraging when you fancy an artist and then they get picked up for big things by people like Egon of Now-Again/Stones Throw Records. Paul White is an MPC guy who’s able to get so much soul and emotion out of his samples… it’s quite outstanding. We did an interview about a year ago when he released is debut, and here it is. Expect a follow up in the weeks to come.

His new album ‘Paul White & The Purple Brain’ comes out early June.

Dam-Funk: Live & Direct

Currently on tour in Australia, Dam-Funk joined me on Soul Glow today and shared with us his generous knowledge of the Funk and Boogie. Check out his mixes across the interwebs and his album Toeachizown, of course, here

Now with added slideshow of pics from the tour. Thank you Little Miss and Grizz.

Trevor Jackson – What’s Cooler Than Being Cool?

Trevor Jackson’s album cover design, DJing and music production kinda put him in a league of his own. He was even good enough to take breakfast radio questions at 8am on the morning of a gig. This guy!

Jamie Lidell – Holding The Compass

Jamie Lidell and I have done three interviews together and two were within a few weeks of each other, so I feel like some kind of authority on ‘Compass.’ Maybe more so than him or anyone who worked on the album. Jokes.

It’s a beautiful album and the bits in part 2 where he talks about working with James Gadson are great.

Osunlade Interview

Ahead of his as-yet-unannounced Australian tour Osunlade chats about being a nomad, his album Rebirth, his new compilation Yoruba Gold and ‘the bone.’ One of the best interviews I have done. I literally just chopped the intro and outro, the rest is just us chatting. Very concise. Very precise. Big up Yoruba.
