Martyn Interview for Fabric50

Martyn is one of my favourite Electronic music producers and DJs – effortlessly understanding Techno, House, Dubstep and more. Check out an interview I did with him 6 years ago for his Fabric 50 Mix CD.

Review: Addison Groove ‘It’s Got Me’

Addison Groove – It’s Got Me – 3024

Addison Groove is on a great wicket at the moment with releases a week a part on two of the finest electronic labels around. Showing no signs of straying from the path which proved so popular with his breakthrough Footcrab single, Addison Groove employs a percussive style of House which takes in 80s electro, breakbeat, dubstep and juke. Also referenced on the A side is, believe it or not, jazz-funk. Perhaps, rather a reference to Adam F and the cutting edge genre of Drum n Bass that has preceded the current trend of UK Bass music would be more fitting; regardless, it’s not a ‘first choice’ for many of today’s producer’s palettes. It’s Got Me is quite a busy, deep and melodically noodley number, which certainly broadens horizons for this up, and coming producer who’s been known more for belters rather than introspective jams. Much more linear is the B-side Minutes Of Funk which has a real 90s Breaks feel to it. Like current winner Out In The Street it’s quite a progressive number, with the track taking some minutes to open up to a wonderfully jazzy Rhodes progression before all of the percussive elements come back in. Not as immediate as his previous works but by no means less engaging.
