Radio Business – Back on 2SER For Just A Moment

I have been lucky to be back on live radio the last few weeks. Listen up here! Tonnes of new music and an interview with Tall Black Guy.

Not Quite Radio but 2.5 Hours of JAMS

I get a lot of promos and not always the gigs to play them at. I’m not on radio at the moment so here’s a selection of tunes I segued together with a bit of a journey/build motif going on. I hope you enjoy it!

New Residency – Movement @ Beach Road Bondi

Fridays – Beach Road Bondi

8:00-12:00. Free Entry

Resident DJs on rotation: Kato, Victim, Huwston, Mason & Bennet (Paper Plane Project) and Preacha + special guests.

It is with great pleasure that Niche Productions, the promoters behind Days Like This! Festival and 2011 shows with Aloe Blacc, Benji B, Roska, Digital Mystikz, Calibre, De La Soul, Mayer Hawthorne and more, presents its first weekly venue booking arrangement.

Every Friday at Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel, a handful of Sydney’s most capable selectors will provide the missing link in what is already a colourful and diverse lineup at the venue. Dubstep, Future Soul, UK Funky/Garage and sprinkling of low slung, leftfield House, Hip-Hop and Beats will all make their way on to the playlist which, over winter, aims to give coastal customers a chance to hear the latest emerging music on a massive soundsystem.

Throwing back to the club weeklies of yesteryear, we’ll also be doing album launches and giving away CDs (remember them?) almost every other week at Movement. Already on the list we’ve got albums from Movement faves SBTRKT, Wiley, Africa Hitech, Shabazz Palaces and Zed Bias and there’s sure to be plenty more.

About your residents: Kato is a man who needs little introduction. With a list of festival appearances and international supports longer than both outstretched arms, he is also co-anchor of Thursday Sunsets on FBi 94.5fm. Victim is a founding father of Sydney’s Dubstep scene, promoting and booking the Void and Index parties, the former now in its fifth year after a monster sold out celebration with UK’s N-Type. Huwston can be heard Mondays on 2SER and read monthly in Drum Media covering a wide range of music from across the soul spectrum whilst Bennet and Mason are Sydney’s newest imports from Perth and their production alias Paper Plane Project covers an equally broad spectrum. Together with Preacha, these six cats will hold the vibe the right way over 3 sets a night, spanning all manner of BPMs, keeping the frequencies significantly on the lower end of the spectrum.

So bob your head, tap your toes, sway side to side, put your hands up… it’s Movement.

Donn T Interview Part 1

In December I caught up with LA based Philly Native Donn T. We’ve been trying to get a chat together since I was in the US in July and I had great help from Mark at More About Music, but what with life happening and all, we just never got around to it. We hit it off immediately, due in part to a very faulty phone line that had Donn running around the phone wondering if it was her line (it was mine). So after a few giggles, we got down to business and in part one of a very extensive interview, she discusses the birth of the album and how growing up in the Thompson household, no music styles were taboo.

Huwston @ Tan Crackers Soul Club Mix

A monthly soul club where friends and music lovers from all walks of life get to hang out, dance and have a good time to music that the Sydney scene doesn’t hear too often. Rare 45’s aka 7″ records that need to be heard alongside staple classics, to create an incredible atmosphere unlike any other in this city. I got down with a mostly contemporary funk set all live, all on 45s on Saturday 29th June. Big up a man like Gian Arpino.
